Making a Difference
Globally & Locally<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h1>\n
As a core part of REDES Ecovillages\u2019 mission and vision<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, our academic international service learning programs (ISLPs) touch the heart of how we\u2019re making a difference together. <\/span>
These programs bring international and Senegalese students together to work on service projects in rural ecovillages (e.g., digging wells, planting trees, building a community center). In our students\u2019 daily interactions with their host families, service learning supervisors and community leaders, they develop a deep understanding of local socio-economic realities and sustainability practices. These open pathways to life-changing experiences.<\/span><\/h5>\n

Faculty Perspective<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n
Faculty-designed modules before and after field experiences – e.g., setting the broader historical, political and cultural context – enable students to tap into knowledge and understanding not often otherwise available. Whether embedded in a broader, longer in-country program or as a self-contained 3-week module, service learning fosters new leadership skills as well as insights into local realities, global interdependence and shared responsibilities.<\/h5>\n
