HELP US MAKE A BIGGER IMPACT

RESULTS-ORIENTED, GRASSROOTS ACTION TO REVIVE THE SAHEL

Born in the region it serves, REDES helps traditional communities become ecovillages by blending deep-rooted culture with modern ecological and community-building methods.
Our ecovillage network of trust which now includes over 100 villages in Senegal and Mauritania address the critical needs of the Sahel’s people and nature through on-the-ground, tangible results.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE SAHEL REGION OF AFRICA?

REDES is organizing ecovillages that rebuild economies, heal the land, and strengthen communties

WHERE IS THE SAHEL?

The Sahel, also known as the Sahelian acacia savanna, is a semi-arid biogeographical region in Africa that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, between the Sahara Desert to the north and the Sudanian savannas to the south. The Sahel is a transitional zone between two more extreme environments, and is made up of flat, barren plains that stretch roughly 3,300 miles across Africa. The Sahel’s countries include:
Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Small part of southern Algeria, Sudan, and Eritrea.
The Sahel has a hot semi-arid climate, and is often plagued by food and water shortages,
